Because its Shelving me Crazy....

Heres the idea: Lots of books require lots of shelves. But these shelves need to be neat. Most neat. Below you will see two sites for planned shelving, one a sketch and one a photo to help imagine the thing. Ideas and suggestions welcome.

You always want freedom to move things later and change the look of a space so here is what I think.

1. Leave the sub against the garage wall. it will look funny sticking out in the room.
2. Don't attach the shelves to the wall. Use galvanized metal pipe to make a freestanding frame then place some nice pine or other wood that matches the floor on there for the shelves. Then you have a nice modern yet southwest feel.
3. Don't put corner shelves in the living room. It will make it feel unbalanced and draw your eye toward the akward corner.
4. Don't put shelves on the small side of the hall way. It will feel to cramped.
5. For the other side of the hallway I would just get some nice freestanding bookshelves.

That's my two cents.

However, your books should probably be burned. Sinner.

I totally agree with JP on a few points. You will cramp the hell out of the hall with the little shelves on the left and corner shelves really draw the eye and shouldn't be used unless you are trying to draw your focal point there. One suggestion might be to put wall mount shelving on either side of the screen itself and I have seen sliding as well as door style shelves that can be used over the electrical panel without blocking access to it. Maybe custom though, but something to look into. For the hall, freestanding is always best, but I am personally not keen on the whole metal pipe thing. Usually it doesn't look modern, it looks college dorm no matter how nice of wood you use. Look at Ikea, they generally have nice shelving units that are not too expensive. Other than that, I agree you have to clean that up. :) Take care bro. Laters.
