ok, heres what we have so far:
Before anything happens, clean clean clean the bike...not clean enough but I do it anyways.
I take apart the various parts of the head, valve cover, valve body, cylinder, and the piston apparatus.
So all the mega duty bolts are out and I have sweat on the brow. Gaskets are popping off and all seems good. Too good:
The inside of the cylinder is almost brand new looking. It still has the original cross-hatching used for feeding oil up between the rings and the cylinder, almost no wear at all. Were talking 100+ hours in mere relativity. This job is apparently due, but not. I took the part to the local machinist and he said the specs are tight, same as original. Meaning the parts havent worn at all? 3.738 to 3.739 and its still the former. Weird. I guess good synthetic oil does work!
I did notice some blueing on the rod balancers so Im gonna post that im the forums tonight. Might be normal?
The piston is clean enough and has zero wear as well. I guess buying Yamaha was a wise choice, so Ive heard.
I also found out that I can drop a 5 speed WR transmission in my YZ which is great news!
Let the good times roll!

awwweeesome pix! So it's like a brand new engine that sucks down oil! woohoo!
kinda but not really. It MIGHT have blow-by and has over 100 hours which is due for an inspection. Luckily everything still looks new and the dude says Im overreacting about the oil, so I should send that in for analysis to be sure. The rings are definitely due and could be the cause of the dirty oil which is likely. back together tomorrow.
btw, I found this and have been laughing for over an hour straight....so funny....
